  • Description

Considered a modern Indian classic, this fiction novel captures the tragic reality of the Partition of India.

    Summary of the Book

The tale begins on a summer of 1947 when the fate of millions is forced to be changed by the Partition of a nation. However, in the Sikhs- and Muslims-populated Mano Majra village, that is located near the Indo-Pak border, the struggle of life is expected to remain the same. Things take a dramatic turn when a local money-lender is killed, the local gangster Juggut Singh is accused, and a train arrives with dead bodies of Sikhs. The village becomes a battleground, and it is on Juggut Singh to bring back peace while redeeming himself.

    Goose-bump inducing

I read Train to Pakistan years ago, right back when I was in college. I can still never forget the novel, which is undoubtedly one of my favourite Indian novels in English.

Khushwant Singh is a daring story-teller. He manages to remain one of the few who refrain from much of the linguistic pomp, glamour, and political pretense that dogs Indian English writers.

    Pretty good

If you want to know about partition and it's consiquenes then this is the best book available in the market.
The quality of pages don't satisfied me although the writing style did. In this book I face some points which make me uneasy I can't imagine what happened in 1947 if I'm not buy it.

To say about this book, not many authors can write from their heart. Kushwant Singh is one who can do it all the time. The way he explains the nature of each character is breathtaking.
He has taken extra care to clearly paint our imaginatio...
