Summary Of The Book
Offshore: How India Got Back On The Global Business Map, is a book written by leading IT figures, Gaurav Rastogi, and Basab Pradhan, who throw light on India’s current standing in the business world due to offshoring. Through the course of this book, the authors aim at defining the term Offshoring, posing the question whether it’s the future of work.
In modern day India, BPO’s, and call centers have more than 2 million young Indians on their payroll, which is an indication of the success of the offshore delivery model. The authors explain that offshoring is a means by which people in a country can work for clients residing in other parts of the globe, without even meeting them ever. The offshore delivery model has increased productivity by leaps, and bounds, as well as efficiency standards, which have been difficult to meet earlier. All these factors have led to India’s re-appearance on the business map. The IT industry in India is estimated to be worth more than 70 billion dollars, which have contributed to over 5 percent of the nation’s GDP.
Through the course of this book, the authors deal with the inner workings of this model, and clear several misconceptions linked with this model as well.
