Arranged marriage has always been a concept which cannot be pushed away from a girl who is of marriageable age no matter how hard she tries. Hitched : The Modern Women and Arranged Marriage is all about the experiences of modern women from various walks of life when it comes to arranged marriage.

    Summary of the Book

Imagine yourself living and spending your entire life with a stranger. Yes! That’s what arranged marriage is all about. The book Hitched : The Modern Women and Arranged Marriage focuses on how modern women are dealing with the concept of arranged marriage. With the invasion of chat rooms and matrimonial websites, arranged marriages have evolved quite a bit.

Author Nandini tries to gain an insight to what women go through when they agree or coerced into an arranged marriage by interviewing a cross section of them. Some experiences are funny while the rest are not.

    quite insightful and entertaining!

I ordered this book since the title sounded catchy. The book was really interesting since there are real life anecdotes, small things that will help you if you're going to get married (either to your boyfriend or an arranged one). It tells you little things that you must be ready for. Of course it's not an exhaustive list of things that can go wrong or what to expect when you're getting married, but it does give you an idea of what are the important things that you should focus on, how long y...

good one to read for both men and women who is about to step into arranged marriage life

i attracted just by reading the title. As a unmarried man and searching process out sourced to my parents... i like to know what a modern women expects in the arranged marriage and in that sense it gives lot of insight into the arranged marriage in a pragmatic way. however, it talks about the women in the upper middle class and most of them born and brought up in city.
I really chocked when i read about the girl who was ready to call off the marriage after engagement just for not holding the ...

    Excellent read!

I recently purchased the book after reading an extract on Kafila. It is really excellent - witty and funny, and also very deep.

It is not like a self-help book, but looks in-depth at stories of women from different religions, and of different ages in this generation, who have had both happy and unhappy marriages.

It also speaks about how important the support of in-laws is for people in the creative field, and it's very nice to read about people who have been able to succeed because of th...

    Just about Ok!!

I was tempted to buy the book given its title. However, it was fairly disappointing since it was very cliched. I credit the author for covering almost every aspect that a would be married woman usually faces during the groom hunt but sadly it just doesn't make the cut! In my opinion.. you can surely give it a pass.

    Very useful!

I really enjoyed this read. There's very pragmatic advice for people who are not just looking to get married, but also married. I had a love marriage, but could relate to a lot of things that are said in this book. In some places, it's hilarious. Some, it's moving. Kudos!
