A Programmer’s Guide To Java SCJP Certification: A Comprehensive Primer is a guide book to help aspirants of the SCJP 1.6 Exam master Java.

    Summary Of The Book

This book presents comprehensive resource material for experienced programmers appearing for the Sun Certified Programmer for the Java Platform SE 6 (CX-310-065) Exam. Knowledge of the Java programming language is not a prerequisite to grasp the content of this book.

The book begins with an introduction to the basics of Java. Subsequent chapters cover concepts such as declarations, operators and expressions, control flow, object oriented programming, nested type declarations, object lifetime, and fundamental classes. The last few chapters explore topics like files and streams, localization, pattern matching, formatting, threads, collections, and maps.

All topics in the book, especially the language features, are discussed at length. The theoretical explanations are supported by relevant code scenarios, programming exercises, and review questions. The book has been thoroughly revised and updated to adhere to the latest version of the exam i.e. CX-310-065. It also contains full-length mock exams for practice. The companion website to the book provides additional information on the subject.

A Programmer’s Guide To Java SCJP Certification: A Comprehensive Primer was published in 2009 by Pearson. It has received positive reviews for its detailed coverage of the Java programming language, particularly from the perspective of the Sun Certified Programmer for the Java Platform Exam.

    Good but not the best

I finished this book and end up being totally confused. Then I got a chance to finish the SCJP book by Kathy Sierra bates. Then I thought why the hell I wasted my time in reading this book by Khalid mughal.

I strongly recommend the book by Kathy as that is the best book to master core java fundamentals. And that is read by most serious Java programmers as well

Not for the faint-hearted and you get more Java per a Java Book!

The purpose of the SJCP/OCPJP exam: The main purpose of this exam is for new and experienced Java programmers to gain knowledge of or to review 'the building blocks' of the Java programming language. The exam puts the experienced programmer to work on subtle aspects of the language, in a way, exposing tools that are very useful but have been forgotten or not been used for long, due to various reasons.

The reason Khalid Mughal wrote this book: The author has attempted the impossible, to make ...

    Excellent

This is a very good read for an intermediate level. The concepts are explained in depth and the tricky tests for each section ensures that you are clear about the concept. Need focused time to read each chapter. Revise it now and then and one can be super confident about Java.

    Book worth reading

The book is outstanding. As a beginner it is good enough.
Still, I would say going through this book after finishing head first java will be best.
This book though doesn't include any cartoons but yes, concepts are explained crystal clearly and in proper sequence. Just keep reading. But yes, you should not start with this book a day or two before your interview or exam. :)
