Being introduced in 1978, the Universal was exactly what you might think it was: a universal training shoe suited for all kind of sports. Due to its features, a mid-cut execution and a padded collar for stability, it was especially worn for basketball and later inspired Ralph Sampsons first prototype signature shoe in 1983. The PUMA Contact No. 1 cupsole that provided good traction for all surfaces rounded off the shoe. We re-issue it here today in its original specification, made for the streets and everyone interested in a timeless classic from the 1970s. The Rudolf Dassler Legacy collection honors the moments in PUMAs history that paved the way for the brand today. This seasons collection Laundry Boys takes inspiration from Rudolf Dasslers entrepreneurial start as one of his mothers laundry boys, delivering clean clothes to customers. In honor of the job that started it all and set him on the path towards founding PUMA, we reissue our most classic silhouettes with laundry-inspired care labels, premium materials, and gold metal charms.
