    The luxury of having water heaters in our homes is underrated. Most of us don’t realize that this is a privilege that a lot of people can’t afford. The word Geyser comes from the word Geyser , which is the name of an erupting spring in Haukadalur, Iceland. Heating piped water from a furnace was a method extensively used by Romans and this was known as Hypocaust. Benjamin Waddy Maughan, an Englishman named his invention ‘Geyser’, after the famous Icelandic hot spring. Edwin Rudds, a Norwegian engineer invented the modern day heater and this work was influenced by Maughan’s initial invention. 


    There are a few things you need to keep in mind while buying a geyser


    The first and foremost thing to consider is the size of your family. A family of four will require a geyser with a capacity of 10 litres at the least. You also need to choose a geyser that does not increase your electricity bills significantly. The longevity of a geyser depends on the type of water available. If the water has a high percentage of salt, there are chances of scaling. This will reduce the life of the coils.


    Choosing the right geyser saves you a lot of energy in the form of electricity consumed You will also save a lot of time as the water will be at an optimum temperature at all times. It is important to run your geyser for the right amount of time because this will improve the longevity of the appliance. The more hot water you use on a daily basis, the higher the electricity consumption of a geyser. A 10 litre geyser in Kashmir will consume a lot more electricity than one in Tamil Nadu. In colder climates, the heating required is higher than in places that are naturally warm. The thermostat temperature in a heater is set usually at 60 degree C for most water haters but some of them have an external control to change this setting. 


    You need to heat the appropriate amount of water that is required. This is possible if you switch on the geyser before use and switch it off after use. By doing this, you will be restricting the loss to the period when the geyser is used. The ideal size of a water geyser depends on the volume of hot water you require at one go.


    A geyser that is efficient must have a strong rust-proof build, particularly the ones that come with storage. Most geysers these days are made up of enamelled steel containers with titanium, polymer, or glass coated on them. On the inside, steel based alloys and glass are used to provide proper insulation. These geysers retain their original surface for longer periods of time and are less corrosive. Since copper is the best conductor of heat, the geyser models that have copper chambers function well in low-electricity.
