The luffa gourd plant is an annual tropical or subtropical climbing vine. When the fruit section of the plant matures, it can be used as an organic bath or kitchen sponge::Luffa plants like full sun and organic soil. Mulch should be used, away from the stem, to retain soil moisture and protect the plant::Luffas need a long season to ripen ,so in more northern areas of the country most gardeners start seeds in 5- or 6-inch pots inside a few weeks before planting time and then transplant them outdoors once the weather is warm and settled.
