Dr. Samik Shome is an economist and an academician with over two decades of teaching, research and consultancy experience. He is currently the Chairperson of the Doctoral Programme and Associate Professor in the area of Economics and Finance in the Institute of Management, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. Dr. Shome received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Calcutta. He is also a Gold Medalist in Graduate Diploma in Materials Management from Indian Institute of Materials Management. He is currently serving as a member of Common Review Mission of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. His research interests include public policy, labour economics, rural development and strategic management. He focuses on various governmental schemes and its implementation at the grassroots level, as well as model building, specifically conceptual and strategic frameworks. In 2009, Dr. Shome was nominated by International Labour Organization (ILO) to present his work in the Conference on Regulating for Decent Work in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Shome has conducted several research projects of various government and international organisations like Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Competition Commission of India, Indian Council of Social Science Research, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and International Finance Corporation (IFC). He is also a Consulting Editor of Hospital Topics journal, the longest continuously published healthcare journal. Earlier Dr. Shome was the Dean (Academics) and Dean (Research & Consultancy) in IMS Unison University, Dehradun and Programme Director of Alliance Ascent College, Alliance University, Bangalore. He was also a Fellow at Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad. He has authored two books, published more than 30 research papers in refereed journals and contributed five chapters in books on social sciences edited by eminent scholars.
