State owned enterprises (SOEs) in India are widespread at all three levels of administration stretching from the central government and the state governments to the local level governments. SOEs act as the nerve centres of large swathes of the Indian economy and directly influence the lives of Indian people in a number of ways. The purpose of this volume is to examine expanse of public enterprises in India in terms of the levels of administration, form of organisation, ownership objectives and their weight in the Indian economy. In this volume, 25 papers have been presented to assess also the importance of listed SOEs in stock markets as well as the extent of SOEs internationalisation. The papers are based on a substantive supporting material, which have generated lots of ideas and principles for running of SOEs in a viable manner meeting the social responsibilities. We hope it would be helpful to all those who stand for the cause of SEOs.
About the Author Dr. K. Gopa Kumar is Ph.D in Law and Associate Professor in Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation, Kerala. He has served as Additional Private Secretary to the Minister for Industries and Commerce, Government of Kerala since 2006 for five years and during this tenure he has made significant contributions for the resurgence of State Level Public Enterprises in Kerala.
