Summary of the Book
In 2850 CE, a 200 year old man is offered a position to explore the regions beyond Known Space. He is accompanied by a Kzin and a human woman known as Teela Brown. On the expedition, he discovers that they are primarily interested in exploring the ringworld, an artificial ring, 1.6 gigameters wide and approximately 1000 gigameters in circumference, encircling a star similar to the sun. The ringworld rotates, building a gravity almost as strong as the Earth’s. The inner surface is flat and habitable, with an area approximately equal to that of three million Earth-sized planets. However, the ringworld is protected by its meteoroid-defence system, and to get back from the planet is going to be far more difficult than anyone expected.
