About the Book
Though there are many feminist theoreticians and writers in the world, particularly in the West, Sarojini Sahoo is different from them all in her ideas and outlooks. Western feminist writers like Virginia Woolf, Judith Butler and Simone De Beauvoir argue for equality, taking a confrontational stance on male supremacy. Dr. Sahoo takes feminism as femininity?the total entity of femalehood which is entirely different from malehood. She opposes male hegemony which is an offshoot of patriarchy. What is required is not the supremacy of one gender over the other, but the perfect harmony and rhythm between the two. Unlike other feminists, she is an advocate of married life and families with children. There are nine critical/research articles in this book examining different themes and aspects of Dr. Sarojini?s works, mainly the novels The Dark Abode and The Goddess in Exile. In addition, there are eight excellent interviews with her. The interviewers are great writers and critics and they have succeeded in bringing out whatever a reader would like to know of Dr. Sahoo as a writer and a person.
