Dinu Bhai Pant, a well-known Dogri author, believed in justice, truth, and honesty; he has unapologetically supported the common man in his works. Sarpanch is based on the life of a folk hero, Data Ranpat. It is a revelation of Data’s character and of his honesty and truth. He sacrificed his life to support the right cause. In a nutshell, the translation of Sarpanch, done by Shikha Pawar, is the closest imitation of the source culture. This text couldn’t be visualized as a fiction, as the echoes of this sorrowful happening could be still seen in the customs and culture of Dogri community. Such customs are acutely real and has been active all amongst the Dogras.
