The Gorara stone is used to carve out this beautiful shivling . The craftsmen use chisel and hammer to bring out curved sculpture followed by grinding and polishing. The stone carving shows the intricate craftsmanship of the artisans of Varanasi, the karmic place of Shiva. sometimes referred to as linga or Shiva linga, is an abstract or aniconic representation of the Hindu deity Shiva in Shaivism. It is a votary symbol revered in temples, smaller shrines, or as self-manifested natural objects. The lingam is often represented within a disc-shaped platform. Lord Shiva is primarily worshipped in Linga form because it is the only form which establishes the inseparable relationship of Shiva-Shakti, it represents the manifestation of Nirguna in Saguna form and Linga is identical with the Universe itself and it represents infinity too.
