This book analyzes the role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the socio-economic empowerment of marginalized communities in India, with special reference to Bihar.

Examining the status of SHG movement in Bihar as well as the impediments in its dynamics, it assesses the socio-economic impacts of SHGs on marginalized communities—scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, Muslims and women. Also, it reviews the role of Central and State Governments in strengthening the SHG movement.
