In all regions of Maharashtra there are countless progressive farmers who are curious, smart and committed to agricultural development. All these people are doing a good job of spreading technology. One such progressive farmer is Vishwasbhau Patil of Lohara village in Jalgaon district. He, along with his brothers, has developed a 'sustainable model' of dryland farming through his experience, clinical study of technology and rigorous economic mathematics. These include land management, intercropping practices, forestry, soil conservation, groundwater conservation, organic curb conservation, green crops and crop residues, cow dung, biodegradation, decafolia extract, biological fertilizers, animal husbandry etc. He used modern technology in his farming practices, which he observed with his qualitative eye from his visits to agricultural research centers in India and Israel.
Vishwasbhau was also appointed to the management committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, taking note of the dryland farming model at the national level. Krishi Ratna, Krishi Bhushan Award of the Maharashtra Government's Agriculture Department along with the 'Harvest of Hope' Award at the national level, the 'Shreshtha Kisan' Award of the Gujarat Government is the acknowledgment of the work of the brothers. The experience in agriculture of the last five decades will be a guide for the farmers in the form of this book.
