About G. R. Gopinath
Captain G. R. Gopinath is an Indian entrepreneur, an ex-army man, and the founder of Air Deccan, a low-cost Indian airline. He was born in Gorur, Karnataka, and attended the Sainik School in Bijapur. He later graduated from the National Defence Academy and served in the Indian army for eight years, during which he fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. After he quit the army, he took up eco-farming and sericulture. His entrepreneurial achievements have won him several awards, including the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur, the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, and the Rolex Award for Enterprise. Captain Gopinath currently lives in Bangalore.
