About The Author: Sourindro Mohun Tagore (1840-1914) was a renowned Bengali musicologist hailing from the influential Tagore family of Bengal, which also produced Rabindranath Tagore. He made significant contributions to both Indian and Western music theory, establishing institutions like the Bengal Music School and Bengal Academy of Music to preserve and promote Indian music. Tagore was a staunch supporter of the British Empire in India, tasked with adapting "God Save the Queen" to Indian melodies.He received honorary Doctorates of Music from Philadelphia and Oxford and was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1884.
