  • Description

Strength Of Materials is aimed at developing the problem solving skills of students by providing worked examples related to the study of strength of materials.

    Summary Of The Book

Strength of Materials, also known as Mechanics of Materials deals with the behaviour of objects that withstand strains and stresses. The theory is based on mathematical modeling in first and second principal stress. This is on account of the fact that the various kinds of stress state in construction parts like shells and beams can be approximated as one or two dimensional. Most of the times, the study of strength of materials is related to the numerous ways of calculating stresses in structural components like columns, shafts and beams.

Strength Of Materials has been extensively revised with the intention of meeting the requirements of the present day examination format of universities and the various competitive examinations. The coverage of the book ranges from the basic to the more complex cases for a varied number of structural components related to the practical aspects of support and loading. Some of the topics covered in the book are Biaxial Stress, Columns, Combined Stress and General State of Stress, Elastic Deflection of Beams: Method of Singularity Functions, Experimental Determination of Stress and Strain, Strain Energy Methods, Special Topics in Elastic Beam Theory, and Introduction to Theory of Elasticity. The book also includes new topics like Maxwell-Betti’s theorem, Springs, and Octahedral stress.

Strength Of Materials provides the reader with a step-by-step approach for all the conceptual questions and solved examples. It also features an enhanced pedagogy. The book has a bank of close to 500 solved examples, out of which 30 are new, around 250 conceptual questions including 48 new ones and 335 supplementary problems with 42 new ones. In addition, there are 100 objective type questions for students, a solution manual for instructors and related online material for added learning.
