  • Description
As the the bicentennary of the French Revolution draws near, Dickens' historical novel serves as a timely reminder of nineteenth-century reactions to that great upheaval. Set between 1757 and 1793, A Tale of Two Cities views the causes and effects of the Revolution from an essentially private point of view, showing how private experience relates to public history. Dickens' characters are fictional, and their political activity is minimal, yet all are drawn towards the Paris of the Terror, and all become caught up in its web of human suffering and human sacrifice. This edition includes extensive explanatory notes giving crucial background information about the Revolution and Dickens' sources. `the best story I have written' Charles Dickens ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Wonderful

This book is more about personality of its characters than plot. You need a great patience and imagination to actually understand this book. It is not like modern novels or most of the old ones where story is the focus. It is absolutely worth reading, but only if you are interested in understanding humans and not in just killing time.

    Nice product

It's one of the best Charles Dickens and a historical fiction I could recommend. A story of two men during french revolution. The writing is flawless. The incidents mentioned are true. The satirical point of view is amazing.

Penguin book in good condition for good prize.

    Simply awesome

The book was the original unabridged version, with not a single word missing and kudos to Flipkart, in excellent condition. The packaging was great, and especially, the guy who came to our doorstep was very polite and cooperative, so though I don't know his name, i would like yo say that his service was beyond satisfactory. One of the best delivery guys till date. Very satisfied with Flipkart, the one which never disappoints
