Description:
The Jamdani saree is a symbol of grace and elegance, and weavers take great pride in this traditional form of weaving. The Jamdani is a fabric of fine cotton muslin of Bengal origin with a figure or a flower. Muslin is a plain cotton fabric of unbelievable delicacy and softness, adorned with floral patterns on the handloom.
Jamdani weaving flourished during the Mughal period in Dhaka. During and after the partition of Bengal, some Jamdanii weavers migrated to Nadia and the erstwhile Bardhaman district and started Jamdani weaving in Bengal. The pattern on the saree is very laborious and time-consuming.
