  • Description

Ten Kings is a historical novel by Ashok Banker. It is the first title in his Itihasa series of novels.

    Summary of the Book

In the Rig-Veda, one can find the story of King Sudas. Sudas led his army against seemingly unbeatable odds, facing the armies of the Ten Kings, or the Dasarajna. His enemies were not strangers from another land. Sudas had to fight those who were once his allies and neighbours, and his friend Anu. The Ten Kings were driven to battle by the Sage Vishwamitra to annihilate Sudas and his “Shudra” tribe. In doing so, they would be able to control the fertile lands in the name of the “Bharata” nation. The very land in which they fought is burnt into history as one of the most famous archaeological sites on Earth: Harappa. The nation that was founded after their battle ended was called Bharat.

    Very good story telling!

Well, this is one book that's been thoroughly satisfying. Very nice story-telling, and lovely flow. Generally, fiction books are littered with unwanted suspense just to divert the reader for no reason. I didn't come across any while reading this. Unputdownable! If it had been a North American book, it'd have been NY Times Best Seller.

The only thing that I didn't find comfortable with is the use of very difficult words that even Dan Brown and other popular authors seldom use for their fictit...

    Worth every rupee

I am a slow reader and often take months to finish reading a book. However this is one book that I finished in 24 hours.

Do not read this book for an exciting war story - you will be disappointed. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5

Read it for the unmistakable quasi historical undercurrents in the book. For instance the story has some parallels with the Mahabharata and Ramayana as well - especially the interaction between Vashistha and Sudasa, before the last phase of the war. Some...

    Great Read! Typical Ashok Banker

Get ready to visit era of 3300 BCE.
I must say, it's not easy to convert just 4 line hymn from Rigveda into a 329 pages novel.
Nice to see someone working so hard to prevent our almost forgotten ancient history vanishing from our memory.
    Hats off to author!
And ya, flipkart deserves a mention too. Nice service at best price available in the market!

    good story

first of all d flipkart product delivery was excellent, I received this book very quickly.
It takes a lot of thought processing and study to covert few hymns about a war into a full fledged story. The story is very well crafted and takes d reader to the ancient period of India. Very nice and interesting story telling. Its a must read for all.

This book can be made into a riveting film.

Sudas was the king of tribe Trtsu Bharata. He ruled area of five rivers, today's Punjab. Anu forms an alliance with five other kings from Bharat Varsha and four foreign kings and these Ten Kings (Dasarajna - ???????) decide to annihilate Trtsu Bharata tribe and plunder the spoils. These Ten Kings are: Anu, Alinas, Puru, Bhrigu, Druhyu, Bhalana, Dasya, Matsya, Parsu & Pani. Last four are Mleccha (Barbaric foreigners) who came from Pariyatra Parvat Pass (called Khayber pass today). Odds are sta...
