About S. P. Sukhatme

S. P. Sukhatme is an Indian professor.

Born in the year 1938, S. P. Sukhatme attended the Banaras Hindu University from where he graduated as a mechanical engineer. He further acquired Master of Science and Doctor of Science degrees from MIT. Sukhatme began his teaching career in 1965 as an Assistant Professor in the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Over the years, he has been associated with the prestigious institution in various posts such as a Professor, Department Head, Deputy Director and the Director. In 2005, he was chosen the Chairman for the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. A fellow of many renowned institutions including the Indian Academy of Sciences, Sukhatme was recognized by the Government of India for his contribution in the field of energy sciences and was awarded the Padma Shri in the year 2001. He presently lives in Mumbai, India, and is a Professor Emeritus at IIT's Mechanical Engineering department.
