Renaissance Italy and The Mughal era fused into one by a master story-teller

First the bad news: for all the Salman Rushdie buffs, who have been spoilt by the genius' writing by metaphor, will be disappointed. This master-class is not written metaphorically, but with a profound research of history (the bibliography at the end will take a lot of your time). Now the good news: Metaphoric or not, this is another great one from Rushdie, who shows that he is damn good in telling a story even outside his comfort zone of metaphor.
The story revolves around a "hidden princess...

    A departure for Rushdie

Salman Rushdie is one of my most beloved and cherished authors, consistently mixing erudition, masterful prose and suave witticisms into his writings. Each one of his characters from Gibreel (The Satanic Verses) to Saleem (Midnight's Children) or even the Three Sisters (Shame) stand as vivid testament to his sheer mastery over the English language.

The Enchantress of Florence, however, is a departure from these. It's the most not-Rushdie, Rushdie work, that you'll read. The dichotomy between...

    the enchantress of florence

a book written very eloquently and vividly..
once you start reading it really sucks you into the very fictional world this book has created..
there are parts of it where you feel like laughing aloud and also portions of it which really strike the point of general human behaviour.
rushdie had tried to immerse the readers into the fictional world, keeping alive the basic human character of the life

A book of intrigue, passion & history

Salman Rushdie is one of my favourite authors. I’m so very excited to know that he is working on his memoirs: about the years he spent in hiding from a fatwa issued against him by Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran. The Enchantress of Florence is a book of intrigue. It is about Akbar the Great, Amerigo Vespucci, Jodha, and of course the enchantress of Florence.
