A classic
I read "East of Eden" before this one so my opinion about John Steinbeck's writing was positive and this book made it impossible to change that opinion. People say this is his best work but I have a soft corner for East of Eden. The book is an epic and a true classic. A story that will stay with you for a long time after you have finished reading it and will shake you. I suggest you read both the books to truly appreciate his genius and ability.

35 years ago, my English professor in a small town college introduced me to John Steinback's classic Grapes of Wrath. I was not a literature student, but Prof. R. K. Sharma is one of a handful scholars in Asia on the Nobel winning author. Prof. Sharma has written a few books on Steinback literature. I got the opportunity to read the masterpiece years later. And true to Prof. Sharma's warning, I could not put down the book after reading its first dozen or so pages. Later I read Of Mice and Men...

Brilliant.
Penguin is usually a safe bet and this edition is no different. The introduction is a bit longish but once the book begins you forget all that. The paper quality is good. The ink doesn't smudge while turning pages. Just a small complaint that the back looks dusty when held in light. All this regarding the appearance and physical aspect. Quality-wise easily in my top 5. First ever Steinbeck book I read. Definitely not my last.
