  • Description

Throughout history, some books have changed the world. They have transformed the way we see ourselves and each other. They have inspired debate, dissent, war and revolution. They have enlightened, outraged, provoked and comforted. They have enriched lives and destroyed them. Now Penguin brings you the works of the great thinkers, pioneers, radicals and visionaries whose ideas shook civilization and helped make us who we are.

Inspired by the myth of a man condemned to ceaselessly push a rock up a mountain and watch it roll back to the valley below, The Myth of Sisyphus transformed twentieth-century philosophy with its impassioned argument for the value of life in a world without religious meaning.

    A Little Grievance

My intention is not to discuss the genius of Camus here, rather express a grievance about the product. This product contains only the essay 'The Myth of Sisyphus' along with the appendix on Kafka. It does not include the other essays like 'Helen's Exile' or 'The Artist and His Time' as opposed to what is shown in the 'Read Sample' option of the product page.

"One must imagine Sisyphus is happy!"- Albert Camus

Being postulated by Albert Camus, 'The Myth of Sisyphus' ,by default is a great book. Camus, in this book particularly deals with the concept of suicide. He deals with its philosophy, reasoning and appeals us as a human race to reject taking its refuge with very profound logical reasoning. For the same logical reasoning about the Murder/Killing the author himself suggests another of his own book- 'The Rebel'. It is a worth experience to read this other work, too.
The other essays in the book ...

"There is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that is suicide."

This book reveals Albert Camus's piercing insight into the human mind as it explores the ideas of what leads a man to go against his most primitive instict of survival and end his own life. The central themes of the book are Absurdism, the Absurd man and what it means to be free. Albert Camus's perceptiveness and sensitivity are refreshing. It is one of the very few books I have found that is both, objective instead of vague, and that views human beings as individuals rather than just anothe...

The Outsider /The Myth of Sisyphus

The myth of Sisyphus is an excellent book to read.Though controversial because it offers an alternative perspective to many of religious -dogmatic views. The theory of existentialism is best propounded by Albert Camus in this book.

The outsider by Albert Camus is also based on existentialist theme. An excellent, thought provoking novel. There is nothing right or wrong about Meursalt's character. Our own judgement is based primarily on our own consciousness and the dillema of Meursalt is tha...

    Prospective review

I am just giving a prospective rating in advance of reading the book & would rate again once i finish reading it.

What follows now are my expectations from this book:

Having gone through existentialist crisis myself during med-school days, I am most painfully aware of what this book has to say.Hence, this prospective review. Also I have read various wiki-pages on the book.
On a related note, I am particularly fascinated by the movie "I love huckabees" & "Linkin' Park" songs that touch upon ...
