  • Description
This Pulitzer Prize-winning history of World War II chronicles the dramatic rise and fall of the Japanese empire, from the invasion of Manchuria and China to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Told from the Japanese perspective, The Rising Sun is, in the author's words, "a factual saga of people caught up in the flood of the most overwhelming war of mankind, told as it happened--muddled, ennobling, disgraceful, frustrating, full of paradox." In weaving together the historical facts and human drama leading up to and culminating in the war in the Pacific, Toland crafts a riveting and unbiased narrative history. In his Foreword, Toland says that if we are to draw any conclusion from The Rising Sun, it is "that there are no simple lessons in history, that it is human nature that repeats itself, not history."

Fromt he other side, and the other hemisphere.

Everybody knows about the second world war. But mostly the European Theatre which garnered the most attention. Whatever is known of the Asia-Pacific Theatre, mainly to Indians, is about S C Bose's exploits, and of course Pearl Harbour; and that too the American side and Hiroshima-Nagasaki.

I believe it was luck to come across this book. It is gripping, and very easy to read. The narrative is well written and holds interest. All the politics before the actual war and Pearl Harbour are given. ...

    Print non-satisfactory

The print of this book is very cheap, the paper quality is not at all good. The price cap should be around 250-300. although i got this book for rs160, so it doesn't bother me much, but for other buyers paying more, kindly keep this in mind.
And regarding the content, its one of few world war books that is a good and easy read. Winner of Pulitzer prize, nothing much left to say after this.
