    Description
For readers of Schindler's List, The Man Who Broke into Auschwitz and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas comes a heart-breaking story of the very best of humanity in the very worst of circumstances.I tattooed a number on her arm. She tattooed her name on my heart. In 1942, Lale Sokolov arrived in Auschwitz-Birkenau. He was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival - scratching numbers into his fellow victims' arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust. Waiting in line to be tattooed, terrified and shaking, was a young girl. For Lale - a dandy, a jack-the-lad, a bit of a chancer - it was love at first sight. And he was determined not only to survive himself, but to ensure this woman, Gita, did, too.So begins one of the most life-affirming, courageous, unforgettable and human stories of the Holocaust: the love story of the tattooist of Auschwitz.-----'Extraordinary - moving, confronting and uplifting . . . I recommend it unreservedly' Greame Simsion'A moving and ultimately uplifting story of love, loyalties and friendship amidst the horrors of war . . . It's a triumph.' Jill Mansell

    Wonderful

It's a real story of Lale Sokolov(Slovakian Jew) in the infamous Nazi concentration/extermination camp where he is put to work as a tattooist during 1942-45. There he witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion amongst the prisoners. The camp also includes other victims as Poles, Roma(Gypsies) and Soviet POWs. It is a story of a man despite of the bleak circumstances hung onto hope through love which he found in the camp itself. The story i...

A heart wrenching story of love and it's strength.

Being a historical fiction lover, I pick up every book that's based around the WWII period. The title itself is so captivating. The Story depicts the real life experiences of a Jew named Lale Sokolov. Finding his one true love to surviving the Holocaust is one hell of a read. The only thing that doesn't make this book a five star rating is that the book was really fast paced and I couldn't connect with the protagonist. It's really evil of me to rate a real life story, so I rate this book base...

    Bad quality

Although the book is about a very serious historical event, I didn't like the writing style. It was very inconsistent and felt all over the place.
