  • Description
One of the bestselling books of the 21st century, soon to be a major TV drama starring Harvey Keitel, Melanie Lynskey, Jonah Hauer-King, Anna Prochniak, and Jonas Nay. I tattooed a number on her arm. She tattooed her name on my heart. In 1942, Lale Sokolov arrived in Auschwitz-Birkenau. He was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival - scratching numbers into his fellow victims' arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust. Waiting in line to be tattooed, terrified and shaking, was a young girl. For Lale - a dandy, a jack-the-lad, a bit of a chancer - it was love at first sight. And he was determined not only to survive himself, but to ensure this woman, Gita, did, too. So begins one of the most life-affirming, courageous, unforgettable and human stories of the Holocaust: the love story of the tattooist of Auschwitz. Discover the incredible bestselling The Tattooist of Aushwitz trilogy, with Cilka's Journey and Three Sisters also available now. Sisters under the Rising Sun, Heather Morris's exceptional new novel, based on a true story of women in Japanese prison of war camps is available in hardback now. ----- 'Extraordinary - moving, confronting and uplifting . . . I recommend it unreservedly' Graeme Simsion 'A moving and ultimately uplifting story of love, loyalties and friendship amidst the horrors of war . . . It's a triumph.' Jill Mansell ______ The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a #3 Sunday Times bestseller from 5 May 2024

    Wonderful

It's a real story of Lale Sokolov(Slovakian Jew) in the infamous Nazi concentration/extermination camp where he is put to work as a tattooist during 1942-45. There he witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion amongst the prisoners. The camp also includes other victims as Poles, Roma(Gypsies) and Soviet POWs. It is a story of a man despite of the bleak circumstances hung onto hope through love which he found in the camp itself. The story i...

A heart wrenching story of love and it's strength.

Being a historical fiction lover, I pick up every book that's based around the WWII period. The title itself is so captivating. The Story depicts the real life experiences of a Jew named Lale Sokolov. Finding his one true love to surviving the Holocaust is one hell of a read. The only thing that doesn't make this book a five star rating is that the book was really fast paced and I couldn't connect with the protagonist. It's really evil of me to rate a real life story, so I rate this book base...

    Nice

Halfway through the book, I have to say the writing lacks the feel which it should be showcasing. The eerie feeling of the story behind a man falling in love with a woman, in the the middle of a concentration camp sounds fascinating yet the writer fails to capture it.
The delivery was amazing. Received it in a sound condition within 2 days of ordering.
