  • Description

The Tiffin, by the award-winning author Mahtab Narsimhan, is a detailed, poignant narrative of the life of Dabaawalas in the Mumbai city, with the backdrop of a story of a young boy called Kunal.

    Summary of the Book

Thousands of dabbawalas carry thousands of freshly made lunch in tiffin boxes, straight from workers' homes to their offices, every day in the vast and pulsating city of Bombay. Although the city is a labyrinth of streets and gullies, and the tiffin boxes have a unique delivery code that only dabbawalas can decipher, not a single dabba (tiffin box) ever gets lost or wrongly delivered. Well yes, almost never... This book is about a young boy Kunal who works in a cafe. Parted from his mother and compelled to work at such a young age, Kunal is certain that if he somehow finds his family, his life would be changed forever. He resorts to the help of a dabbawala friend, and pledges to find his mother and his family. It seems to him that the answer may lie with the tiffin boxes again. He knows for a fact that even if a single message in a tiffin box is misplaced, it would have serious consequences on his job, but he is still adamant about finding his mother back. If a lost note was actually the start of his fate as a tiffin delivery boy, can another change his life for the better?

Tiffin leaves you hungry for more.

A simple heart warming story, very light on the senses like a good tiffin meal, but soul satisfying like a hearty dinner, a meal well done-leaving you hungry for more like a tiffin should do.
It was also like watching the two movies: Lunchbox and Stanley ka Dabba at one time.
Worth buying as a gift for the young ones who love reading and the Oldies like me who will devour any good book, tiffin or lunch!
