  • Description

The Trouble with Physics, by Lee Smolin, is a book about contemporary science.

    Summary of the Book

Ever wondered why it is so hard to understand what string theory is, why it matters to our understanding of the universe? Have you also wondered what if theory itself is wrong? The Trouble with Physics is a ground-breaking account of the state of contemporary physics: of how we have evolved from Einstein and Relativity, through quantum mechanics, to the bizarre and peculiar predictions of string theory, full of undetected dimensions and magnitudes and multiple universes. The author, Lee Smolin, not only offers a brilliant overview for lay readers of current research as we attempt to build a 'theory of everything', but also searches for answers for many of the suppositions that lie behind the string theory. And in doing so, he explains some of the audacious and outlandish ideas that will perhaps propel research in the near future.

    About Lee Smolin

Lee Smolin is a famous American theoretical physicist, best known for his valuable contributions to quantum gravity theory, especially the approach called loop quantum gravity. He serves as a faculty member at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, a member of the graduate faculty of the philosophy department at the University of Toronto, and an adjunct professor of physics at the University of Waterloo. Some of his notable works are The Life of the Cosmos, Three Roads to Quantum Gravity, and Time Reborn. Smolin strongly believes that loop quantum gravity and string theory can be reconciled as different aspects of the same underlying theory. His areas of research include cosmology, foundations of quantum mechanics, elementary particle, and theoretical biology.

"How Physicists have abandoned the principles of Science"

Exceptionally good book which informs the public on the institutional problems of contemporary Physics.

In this book, Smolin provides a view of what is really going on in American Physics institutions.

Starting out with an excellent sketch of development of physics over the centuries, he moves on to its contemporary state. It shows how String Theory (ST): which *claims* to unify all the forces of nature, has been almost religiously embraced by most American institutions with practically no...

    string theory does it work

Its a good book which throws insights about string theory.First off all, sting theory has been hyped alot. The author throws insights whether string theory will be the greatest discovery or the greatest fall in physics. If it turns out true, the physicist studying this field will turn out to be the greatest heroes in science or the greatest losers in physics.
