  • Description
This is an incredible story about my childhood and adolescence…the one revealing the graphic and disheartening dynamics of growing up and fighting for survival in an unsafe and toxic environment. Lived in a cramped home with 18 members of an extended family, used a dimly lit kerosene lamp for studies, often attended classes hungry and lived with fear in the presence of a ruthless and overly strict father. At times I thought that life was worth not living by the absence of fatherly love and lack of basic needs in my life. This is a compelling tale of my survival, my determination to study and succeed in life, and eventual redemption as my destiny took me to Bombay and from there to the United States where I found love, peace and happiness and an undying desire to live and succeed.

    • In this stirring memoir, the author Sundar Shetty shares painful stories of his childhood and adolescent life in India, his experiences with abuse and his search for fatherly love in his life. This compelling tale of survival drove him to Bombay and from there to the United States. He agonized initially over his move to the United States, cried alone in a basement apartment in Brooklyn and finally settled and reunited with his family in Alexandria, Virginia. He pursued his studies, became a U.S. citizen and joined the Federal Government. First working as an executive for a national trade association and later as a senior professional with U.S. Government, he authored and co-authored several studies, published articles on international trade and traveled extensively to investigate trade complaints and unfair trade practices and advised the executive and legislative branches of U.S. Government on all trade matters including proposed bilateral and multilateral trade agreements and legislations.
