  • Description

Timepass 01 Edition is the riveting account of the life and times of the consummate free spirit, Protima Bedi. Her brash sexuality and rebellious streak has been explored in entirety in this autobiography and her daughter, Pooja Bedi writes a touching epilogue delving into her mother’s circumstances and her death.

    Summary Of The Book

Who was Protima Bedi? This is a difficult question to answer but this is a question in the mind of every person associated with the firebrand, whether a tabloid reader or a relative. Some people dismiss her to be a subject of scandal and a short sojourn for gossip in the world of Bollywood. Others liken her to be a proponent of the flower generation and her free spirit earned her enough credit as the poster girl of India. She never failed to provide material for gossip columnists who wrote many things about her, but Timepass 01 Edition really manages to provide the incisive exploration into the mind and soul of this woman. Her life had decidedly seen the many twists and turns that usually accompany a mystery and her allure arose from that quality of elusion.

In 1974, magazines and newspapers circulated a number of pictures of Protima Bedi walking down Mumbai roads in broad daylight. After that most inappropriate incident, she went ahead and reinvented herself as a classical dancer. She also openly maintained herself to be a devotee of Goddess Kali. And, this radical change didn’t stop there. Whether it was her failed open marriage to the famous Kabir Bedi, her romantic liaisons with great men, the constant exploration for her life’s truth, Protima Bedi managed to astound and enthrall everyone around her till her very death. Shortly before her death she again stunned people by choosing monkdom and shaving her head in an attempt to live that life.

Even posthumously, Pooja Bedi’s offering in Timepass 01 Edition becomes that perfect portal to  relive that most eventful life using Protima Bedi’s very own words. Through a number of intimate letters to family, friends, lovers, her personal journals, and her own unfinished autobiography, Timepass 01 Edition reveals honestly the truth about Protima Bedi. Her disturbed childhood, her insecurity over her appearance, and the failure of her relationships are all beautifully etched into the narrative of this book. Her greatest legacy, Nrityagram, a dance village has been investigated thoroughly with Bedi expressing the difficulty of the journey in establishing this haven for classical dancers. Collated and edited by Pooja Bedi, Timepass has been received well in the literary circuit.

SALUTE TO THE WOMAN OF THE CENTURY

Protima Bedi. What a lady. An inspiration to a whole generation. Inspires awe even from today's gen x. She was actually born three or even four decades too early. The kind of things she did is the stuff of the legends. The lady broke all the cultural dogmas and came out with such openness it was indeed refershing. And the book does justice to her magical life. Well done to Pooja Bedi for a book well written.

    speechless! inspired and motivated.

Having read the book, I only closer to Protima, as if I have always been a part of her life as much she had been mine. I have read the book 4-5 times and I cant stop admiring her for her honesty, compassion and the way she lived her life to the fullest.I wonder why the book is not a part of the feminist curriculum.

    Really TimePass

Its just a time pass book. Its not boring and you will enjoy the reading. Protima Bedi was really different lady. Her mindset was not like common people. But I didnt find anywhere that why she kept surname Bedi even after divorce from Kabir Bedi. But I enjoyed the book.
