  • Description
About the Book: The essays in this volume address the polemics of translation in view of the contemporary theoretical debates and new paradigms, practical problems and challenges faced by a translator and the mode and methodology of translation. Divided into three sections the first part of this volume comprises of essays on classical Indian and Western translation theories. The second part of this volume includes a wide selection of translated stories from Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi and vernacular Rajasthani to offer the variables of translated literature in English. The third section comprises of three poems by Rekha Vashisth - "One Fine Day", "Colour" and "Sieve" translated by Kamayani. It is hoped that this book will offer to the readers the glimpses of the nuanced socio-cultural life of people residing in the far off nooks and corners of India and validate the need for the translation of such beautiful stories and poems for a wider national and international readership. About the Author: Dr Rekha Sharma is Associate professor and Chairperson in the Department of English, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. Her area of interest is postcolonial/ African studies, Women studies and translation. Her Ph. D was on the African writer Armah and she has been guiding P.D and M.Phil students in postcolonial, subaltern and women studies.
