Two Fates: The Story Of My Divorce is the story of a couple, Rishab and Deepika, falling in and out of love, and what happens when their families decide to bring their love story back on track.

    Summary Of The Book

Two Fates: The Story Of My Divorce is the author’s debut novel that features a love story gone sour.

The protagonists are Rishab and Deepika. Rishab is a typical IITian with a lucrative career and a dream to become a novelist someday. He is also polite and impulsive. Deepika is his polar opposite in every way. As they say, opposites attract, and the two end up falling in love with each other. They decide to get married and seal their love.

Alas, as with any good love story, there is one major deterrent to their plan. Rishab is a Punjabi and Deepika, a Tamilian. They face opposition from their respective families who strongly disapprove of their cross-community union. But in the end, love conquers all. Rishab and Deepika finally tie the knot.

Now 4 years have passed, and all is not well in their marriage. Rishab and Deepika are no longer in love, and are headed for divorce. But there’s a not-so-tiny glitch in their breakup plan. Their families are now at peace with each other, and willing to do whatever it takes to keep the couple from splitting up.

If getting married was tough, getting divorced is proving twice as hard for the couple. Their families have joined hands to ensure that the couple stays together till death parts them.

Both families even go to the extent of living under the same roof. Rishab and Deepika could either succeed in getting a divorce amidst all the meddling from their families, or on the other hand, they could get stuck with each other for life. Whatever the outcome, the plot and the characters are hilarious and entertaining.

Two Fates: The Story Of My Divorce was published by Westland in 2011. It borrows its background from Chetan Bhagat’s novel, Two States.

    A real page turner

Beginning to finish, the book is terrific and hilarious - another classic Judy. Be it the not-so-typical mother-in-law or the way too obvious NRI relatives in England, the characters are portrayed remarkably funny and Deepika and Rishab keep us hooked till the end of the book. Perfect choice for a light read and a striking page turner.

    Good for a casual read

A nice book that flows smoothly like a gentle river. Good for a casual read over a travel/weekend. The argument/fight scenes between the couple are very interesting, fresh and enjoyable. The biggest positive aspect of the book is the couple.

The ending and the various turn of events in between make for a very interesting read. Some aspects of the book project a cosmopolitan lifestyle making it difficult to relate, but the mild comedy that is so persistent throughout the book, make it possibl...

As a debut, Judy Balan has done an impressive job.. powerful punches, almost relate-to characters..
Without divulging the plot, I am sure you will smile, laugh and grin with the Protagonist. I especially liked her husband Rishi's character.. worth a read I would say!!
    Classic Punju-Mallu combi!!

two states gave birth to two fates..

Firstly is it a satire or an extended epilogue to chetan bhagat's 2 states. it has an uncanny resemblance to what happened after a delhi born IIT falls in love with a Conservative Tamil girl who unlike most other of their flock is defeaningly beautiful. So from there she takes the story onwards.
You can very well point out that it is her first write more than 100 pages. She was confused all the time about how to fill in more pages. She brought in tons of character and at times it is hard to fo...

    Good Read

Light and quick read, Judy seems to be an impressive new writer. Book is a good take on "two states". One of the better Indian author books on life, love and funny realities of life. Book majorly revolves around what happens after the happy marriage how life goes on, how life becomes horrible and how simply you can over come ur partners habbits dat u detest.

One for bedtimes or flight reads,

Just over 170 pages long, a cover page with some funny cartoons and an interesting title, which reminds the reader of a recent red coloured cover page book by a notoriously popular writer!!! I picked up Two Fates at the airport yesterday when my flight I was to travel was delayed by two hours.

Judy Balan plots the story of an Indian married couple, a Punjabi boy (an IITian-IIMA aspiring to be a popular best-selling writer) with a Tamilian girl (a student of English turned psychotherapist)...

    A Nice Read

The book will have you in fits of laughter...with the superbly written style...In a way the Book can be called Part 2 of Chetan Bhagat's Two States...

I really enjoyed reading it....and the book is truly worth spending time....the characters are believable as is the narrative....

The book will hold a special place for me...as I too have an inter-state marriage with me being an Oriya and my wifey from U.P. Today both of us face similar situations with our families bonding a little too much s...
