When conventions collide with immorality, things are bound to spiral out of control. A Hindi romantic drama film, Utsav was directed by Girish Karnad and stars the enchanting Rekha, Shashi Kapoor and Shekhar Suman. Set in the ancient city of Ujjayini, this film follows the passionate affair between a poor Brahmin man and a beautiful courtesan. As the plot progresses, the man is sentenced to death after being accused of murder. Will the couple ever be truly happy? Or was it all a dream to begin with? Noted for the song Mann Kyun Behka which features the talents of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, this movie won 2 Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award as well.
