Vimana by Mainak Dhar is a sci-fi techno thriller that takes us into the life of a young college student when an encounter leads him to grapple between good and evil and reveals to him secrets of an unknown world, which we have so far dismissed as mere myth or legend.

    Summary Of The Book

The term Vimana in Sanskrit epic implies a flying machine. Ancient texts referred these Vimana as the flying craft of Gods’ on which they used to wage war with the help of nuclear weapons. Today, we largely regard them as parts of our myths and legends. Mainak Dhar in his book unravels a hidden world where unknown to us such wars are still being waged.

At the onset of the story we find the protagonist Aaditya endeavoring to help a woman who is being raped. He finds that not only are the attackers supernatural beings but, even the woman who is being attacked has supernatural powers endowed on her. He witnesses a strange airship hovering over the sky and a man gets out from it to save the woman. Together they fight the attackers and then go off in the airship. At first he thought what he had witnessed was a secret government operation but he later discovered it was not.

Aaditya has a dream of becoming a fighter pilot however, after he witness the encounter his life took a complete turn. Before long he finds himself in the middle of the conflict between the good and the evil. At stake is not only his life but also the life of mankind. He ends up living his very dream in a way he had never thought would happen.

The book is an exciting science fiction thriller and is an exciting read for all science fiction fans. Vimana is an intriguing amalgamation of myths, prophecy, history, science fiction, mystical places, contemporary happenings and fantasy. Devils and Gods of various religions form the core of the story. Through this book the legends are made to come alive.

    Love meets long range missiles

This is the second novel i read of mainak dhar after "LOC". Although i knew it will be no where close to LOC if i compare it from the fighter jet point of view but it holds its ground in its own view.

On one side you have dogfights and on the other you have emtions and love....its a perf...

    Average book

Just another average book. But the idea and characterization of Hindu gods not actually being gods is good. Read it as a time pass but dont expect anything thrilling from it. Good attempt though.
