Description

Members of the genus Tagetes have attractive yellow, orange, or red composite flowers that are solitary on the stems or clustered. The leaves are arranged opposite each other on the stem and are usually finely cut. Characteristic bracts (leaflike structures) form a cup-shaped base below each flower head.

Soil Nutrient Requirements	Local types (orange & yellow), Pusa Narangi Gainda, Pusa Basanthi Gainda (IARI varieties) and MDU 1 can be cultivated. Well drained loamy soil is found suitable. The soil pH should be 7.0 to 7.5. Saline and acidic soils are not suitable for cultivation.
Sowing Method	How to care for marigolds. Keep the soil moist, especially during prolonged dry periods, giving plants a thorough water once a week. Plants in containers will probably need watering every day or every other day during summer. To ensure reliable, long flowering they will need plenty of food.
