Summary of the Book.

Grady Tucker and his sixteen-year-old sister join their scientist parents in their new house in Florida. Their father, Dr. Tucker, is investigating a theory that deer can survive in Florida. Grady and Emily set out to explore the swamps, getting lost soon. They wander around the swamp, trying to find their way out and stumble into a small shack where an old hermit lives alone. The hermit chases them away, he is a wild man who looks like he doesn’t want any company. The kids find their home and later that night, they hear eerie howls coming from the swamp. What kind of strange creature lives in this swamp, and what does it want? There are stories of a strange fever which killed most people in the village and drove the survivors mad. Is that story true or is there something much more macabre?
