Whitney, My Love, by Judith McNaught, is the second installment in the Westmoreland saga, preceded by the The Kingdom of Dreams.

    Summary Of The Book

Whitney, My Love, is a romance saga set in the early 19th century. The story begins with a depiction of McNaught’s protagonist, Whitney Stone’s, childhood years. Whitney is portrayed as the tomboyish sort, who had little care for her dress or decorum, which was unbecoming of a girl in 18th century England. She grows up under the care of an undemonstrative father, which immediately elicits sympathy for Whitney from the readers.

From the start, Whitney has fallen for a man named Paul Sevarin, a gentleman who could care less for her attention or affections. In an effort to put distance between the two, Whitney’s father decides to send her to France, where she metamorphoses into a sophisticated and beautiful lady. When Whitney returns to England, she suddenly becomes the most sought after woman in high society. But the only heart Whitney cares to win over is that of Paul Sevarin. Unfortunately, Whitney’s father has other plans for his daughter’s future. To circumvent bankruptcy, her father draws an agreement with the Duke of Claymore, an arrogant and self-serving man. Whitney is the trade off in the agreement. The Duke make several forceful attempts to seduce and overpower Whitney, but her heart continues to reside with her childhood love.
Whitney, My Love was first published in 1986.

An insight to the life of Dukedom

When I started reading this story, in the initial pages, it felt very boring and at one point I had kept it aside. However, when i started getting the momentum of the story and all its twist, turns and the grandeur of the era it gripped me till I finished.

Duke of Westmoreland and Whitney - though poles apart in stature, personality & lifestyle yet they complement each other so well.

Clayton - the Duke is rich & handsome and leads a flamboyant life until he meets Whitney - the stubborn, out...

    wonderful

i have come to love and now worship mcnaught's work! and this one's simply wonderful. an engaging tale of love and passion where the onus is on the male protagonist in the beginning to make the rebellious whitney fall in love with him and then destroy the same love with his rage incensed by jealousy. but in all of it, whitney comes out as a winner, first defying him and then bringing him back to her, all bowed and sober. an alluring tale of love, a must read!

    The best from Judith

The Author once again takes the reader into a beautiful and romantic journey in olden times. Surely the best of Judith's creations.

A tribute to the independent yet a loving and resilient spirit of women.

Both the heroine and hero are quite different and give a fresh perspective on characters.

Although I would be more happy if dear Judith refrains from making all her heroines always a virgin and all her heros always rakes! and if it were not a fictious story, readers can not forgive Cla...

    Contradictory Emotions

Whitney, My Love is a novel set in the 1800s, with a spunky heroine and an arrogant hero. Sounds familiar?
But yet, WML belongs to a category of its own.
Its a long novel (a little more than 700 pages) and is romantic (to an extent), tear-jerking and agonizing.
Now, once you read the novel (which I strongly suggest you as it is quite well written) you would know why I used those particular words to describe it.
The thing about WML is that readers may either like it or hate it. This is a nove...

Whitney, finally gets loved in spite of trying desperately to love the wrong man.

Everything that could go wrong, went. Tedious reading. atrocious behaviour on the part of the heroine. Long suffering hero who finally catches some of Whitney's bad luck and bad judgement.
