Get ready to smash some crazy Romans with Asterix and Obelix in this exciting omnibus of Asterix and Obelix by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo!

    Summary of the Books

    Asterix the Gladiator

The Prefect Odius Asparagus has always had a big mouth. In this comic, he promises to get old Julius Caesar a couple of indomitable Gauls as a present, but perhaps this time he has bitten off more than he can chew. He consults Centurion Gracchus Armisurplus, who recommends that there is one Gaul who is less harmful than the other crazier ones: Cacofonix the Bard. They hatch a plan to kidnap the bard, and after some minor difficulties, manage to do so. However, they have been spotted by a young boy from the village who rushes to tell the others. Asterix and his friends are furious, for despite bearing the brunt of their punches and kicks most of the time for his rather cacaophonous songs, the Bard is still one of their own, and they will do anything to get him back. Asterix and his loyal companion Obelix, who is well filled and certainly not fat, are selected for the quest and soon set forth on the journey to Rome. Meanwhile, Cacophonix has been recruited into the Gladiatorial team, but when the trainer declares him unfit for the game, Caesar decides to throw the bard to the lions instead. Asterix and Obelix decide that there's only one way to save the bard: they need to become Gladiators themselves! Join the two indomitable Gauls as they teach the crazy Romans that when it comes to a good brawl, there's no one better than two Gauls pumped up with their Druid's magic potion.

    Asterix and the Banquet

Inspector General Overanxius is quite the unlucky man. Not only has Julius Caesar chosen him to clean up his mess in Gaul, but he also has to deal with the dasterdly Gauls from the one village which still refuses to law down their swords at Caesar's feet. Overanxius's attempts soon fail and he hatches the ingenius idea of walling the village off from the rest of Gaul. Asterix and Obelix are not to be deterred however, as they challenge the Inspector General and tell him that they will get through it and tour all of Gaul, collecting the delicacies from each village in order to build a banquet fit for a king. Read in wonder as the two Gauls are fuelled with Getafix's magic potion and journey to prove a point: the Romans are quite clearly crazy!

    Asterix and Cleopatra

Julius Caesar has a big problem. Cleopatra's nose to be exact, and it is quite the big one! To satiate her pride at Egyptian architecture, Caesar challenges her to build a palace fit for a Caesar! Cleopatra wastes no time in calling her best architects and informing them that they have only three months to build a new palace in Alexandria. Edifis, the chief architect is worried. The task is insane, and if he doesn't manage to do it, he will be fed to the Crocodiles. He journeys to Gaul to ask Asterix, Obelix and Getafix to help him, and the three of them journey with him to Egypt to help Cleopatra annoy Caesar even further. However, Caesar doesn't play fair, and he decides that someone will have to pay the fare to make sure the Gauls don't make Cleopatra's nose, and pride, any bigger than they already are!

    Brilliant

Asterix omnibuses are a great way to read three adventures in one go. These books are well-bound and have good-quality pages and prints. A definite collector's edition.

    Asterix-Need i say more

Big time Asterix fan. Had the individual books growing up. Find this as a release from stress, hence bought all omnibus. Economical way to collect and keep reading my favourite comic series (and Tintin and Archie and Calvin/Hobbes). :-)

Best to buy a hardback if your a collector

This is a good collection of three stories however if your a collector and you collect comics I would suggest buying the hardback. The paper back warps. The wear is quick my copy looks bad just after one read. Now I have placed it under a pile of books to straighten it out
