  • Description
Aurangzeb Alamgir (r. 1658-1707), the sixth Mughal emperor, is widely reviled in India today. Hindu hater, murderer and religious zealot are just a handful of the modern caricatures of this maligned ruler. While many continue to accept the storyline peddled by colonial-era thinkers-that Aurangzeb, a Muslim, was a Hindu-loathing bigot-there is an untold side to him as a man who strove to be a just, worthy Indian king. In this bold and captivating biography, Audrey Truschke enters the public debate with a fresh look at the controversial Mughal emperor.

    Must buy!

An illuminating work in depth and brief. You would be in a flow while reading this masterpiece.
The writer does justice to the most unjustified man of today's era Aurangzeb!
It is to be understood that the medival India was to be affected by proverbs like "ya takht ya tagoot" !
Aurangzeb was a ruler of his times and he ruled the way he could have. Not all of his choices were his own but the circumstances!
But he was a millitary and administrative genius.

    Pretty good

The book addresses those facets of Aurangzeb’s life, which have hotly been debated upon in mainstream discussions. The narrative is coherent, easy to read, though it sometimes feels a little defensive. Although there is little mention of Aurangzeb’s personal life, reader gets a glimpse of his persona in his letters to his family members. Professor Truschke’s bibliographical essay is especially helpful for it is a detailed account of how to address and use primary and secondary sources of the ...
