  • Description

Set in the years leading up to the Global Financial Crisis, Cold Steel: Lakshmi Mittal And The Multi-Billion-Dollar Battle For A Global Empire gives an insight into one of the most powerful and hostile large-scale corporate takeovers of all time.

    Summary Of The Book

Cold Steel: Lakshmi Mittal And The Multi-Billion-Dollar Battle For A Global Empire narrates the story of two behemoth steel companies, Mittal Steel and the Luxembourg based Arcelor. Aditya and Lakshmi Mittal of Mittal Steel envisioned an economic steel industry on a global scale, whereas Guy Dolle of Arcelor had a vision of a globalised steel industry with the prime focus on the high end European markets.

This fast-paced and competitive story gives the reader a chance to immerse themselves in the complex world of politics, finance and business and the takeover of Arcelor in the epic corporate battle between two of the world’s largest producers of steel. Dofasco Steel Works, which was already caught up in its takeover battle between ThyssenKrupp and Arcelor, suddenly had a third contender, Mittal Steel. Through rare insights and retellings by significant players involved in this cut-throat battle, the book reads like a thriller, fast-paced and electrifying.

The step-by-step account of what went down between these huge names in the span of six months, the offensive and defensive steps taken, and the resultant company of ArcelorMittal is narrated in a crisp manner. Cold Steel: Lakshmi Mittal And The Multi-Billion-Dollar Battle For A Global Empire also mentions the predominant reluctance on the part of the European business community as it comes to terms with India’s ameliorating entrepreneurship.

    Thriller

The book describes the events that led to the merger of Mittal Steels and Arcelor. The story is very tightly packed thriller and can be easily made into a movie. The book gives us a good insight into the sheer force with which peole like Lakshi Mittal work for their dreams and vision. It will keep you hooked.

    Fantastic

This book talks about the mother of all steel battles...how LNM went on from being the King of Steel to the undisputed Emperor of Steel. Written in a thriller like fashion, the book gives information on behind the scenes wrangling and manoeuvring which only a close insider is privy to.

The best part is one does not need to have a background in finance or business to understand the nuances.

Go ahead and buy the book. Regret will not be a word that will come to your mind.

    Very welll Written

Although I wish that there was more detailed presentation about Guy Dolle and others in Arcelor, the book was well presented. Being an Indian, I do appreciate the way Mr. Mittal overcame enormous obstacles, however, the roles of EU governments and their efforts to make changes should have been appreciated more in the book.

A gripping story about the battle to create a Steel Empire.

The book is almost exhaustive in dealing with the strategies as well as the counter strategies used by either sides in the Arcelor-Mittal battle.
The book intrigues in M&A deal making, with the behind-the-scene lobbying in Government strongholds, PR activities and a whole lot of activities for the battle to be crowned the Steel Emperor.

    Cold Steel

Since i am into iron and steel business , i was tempted to know about the steel stallion.
The book is nice if one wants to know about the background story that takes place during merger and acquisition of companies.

However over ally thumbs up for compiling the events occurred and narrating it in the papers.

    Amazing

It might sound a boring corporate book but once you start reading through it, it is the most gripping and "REAL" corporate battle. A man on who's dream the world laughed at in the 90's proved his metal in the next decade. Must Read!
