  • Description

A History of India: Volume Two continues Percival Spear’s story of the great Indian nation, covering the period between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries.

    Summary of the Book

Despite presenting a dated view on Indian history, this book offers readers a Britisher’s perspective on the Indian culture. It explains how India came under the British regime and details the history of the country during that period. Readers will understand how the British policies towards Indian governance were formed and how the Indian Independence Movement gained its momentum. Spear explains that Mughal rule initiated the entry of modern civilization to India, offering a view that is often disputed in Indian academic circles. He also puts forth his view that the British Raj completed this transformation, bringing Western Civilization to India.

    About Percival Spear

Avoid this book...Service of Flipkart is as always good...

I would request everyone not to buy this book. In the preface of History of Early India from the Origins to AD 1300(History of India Vol. I), Mrs. Romila Thapar says that she has persuaded Penguin to bring out the History of India in a new three volumes pack, of which Mrs. Thapar's above mentioned book is a part, rather than the old two volumes pack. Hence essentially this volume written by Percival Spear is outdated. Go for books of Satish Chandra and Bipan Chandra on Flipkart and avoid this...
