  • Description

The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius is a collection of the Roman Emperor’s thoughts and personal writings he wrote mainly for himself.

    Summary of the Book

Timeless and immortal in its messages, this book gives readers a look into the mind of one of the most influential rulers to have held the title of Caesar. Originally written as 12 books, this was first written as a source of personal improvement and guidance. These thoughts were penned down over different periods of his life, and boast a straightforward style. Instead of a ruler, Marcus Aurelius comes across as an ordinary man. He believed in self-analysis and judgment. He often searched for his place in the universe and believed that all men should strive for the same goal. Everything has come from nature, and shall return to it in time. Praised for his impassionate writing style which helped him write what he thought honestly, he also did not care for the opinion of others or criticism. He had never imagined that it would influence hundreds of thousands of people later, sealing his fate as one of the wisest men to have ever lived. He understood completely that life is a temporary thing, that the present is but a moment in the cosmic glory of the universe and that goodness, justice and honesty alone are paramount. Nothing was of more value to Marcus Aurelius than human virtues, and this is self-evident in his writings. The book is a must read for everyone looking for wisdom, and ready to be changed anew by the words of a man who knew that though he was an Emperor, he was an ordinary man.

    About Marcus Aurelius

Caesar Marcus Aurelius Antonius Augustus was the Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 A.D. Widely considered one of the most important Stoic philosophers and the last of the Five Good Emperors, he led the battles in Central Europe against the Marcomanni, Quadi, and Sarmatians during the Marcomannic Wars.

Marcus Aurelius’ book on Stoic philosophy has influenced several political leaders over the millennia, including Frederick the Great, John Stuart Mill, Matthew Arnold, Goethe, Wen Jiabao, and Bill Clinton.

    • Marcus Aurelius Antoninus was born to an upper-class Roman family in A.D. 121 and was later adopted by the future emperor Antoninus Pius, whom he succeeded in 161. His reign was marked by a successful campaign against Parthia, but was overshadowed in later years by plague, an abortive revolt in the eastern provinces, and the deaths of friends and family, including his co-emperor Lucius Verus. A student of philosophy from his earliest youth, he was especially influenced by the first-century Stoic thinker Epictetus. His later reputation rests on his Meditations, written during his later years and never meant for formal publication. He died in 180, while campaigning against the barbarian tribes on Rome's northern frontier.

    Worth every penny

    Grabbed the deal in 75.
The pages are good and clear print.
    The book is light weight.
The content is priceless. Its a complete insight of life and how one can tackle the doubts of daily life.
Grab the book when price is low or equal to what i got. You will have a good depth to your meaning of life.
The narration, however is old english. But you need not have to have a good command over that to understand what he is trying to impart.
    Enjoy.

    Best in the market!

Good paper quality. Medium font. Super fast delivery by flipkart. Only one complain the book wasn't properly packed. It had no bubble wrap which makes the book prone to damage. Also flipkart didn't provide any bookmark. Otherwise everything is fine.

    Wonderful

"Suffering pain or difficulty without complaining"
That's how google defines a stoic.
    So how can I review😂.
Still a must read, highly recommended for newbies.
Meditations is one of the main sources of stoic philosophy the book talks about mortality of human life, virtues, wisdom.
Just paper quality is poor but well I'm Aurelius' follower I'm indifferent to it.

    Must buy!

This book is the series of reflection of Marcus Aurelius to himself which are now known as Meditations. He had written this in those times without any intention of publishing his work . Good book for life learning . No problem with the paper quality and the print.

    Simply awesome

    Overall review-
A good book, which has something to teach to every person. I see myself coming back to it again and again in the future, for I wouldn't be able to absorb such a deep book in it's first read.

    Material review-
The cover and pages are fine, a little dust on a couple pages but i do not mind. Also, the publishers gave a handy bookmark, always appreicated.
