Pestonjee is a simple story revolving around two Parsi men - Phirojshah Pithawala (Naseeruddin Shah) and Pestonjee (Anupam Kher) - who are best of friends. As a vow of camaraderie they decide to get married together. Unfortunately, both of them are smitten by the same young lady, Jeroo (Shabana Azmi). While Jeroo marries Pestonjee, Phirojshah decides to stay unmarried for the rest of his life. Unable to bear the burden of seeing his love married to his best friend, he takes a transfer. Several years later, he visits the couple and discovers that Pestonjee is cheating on his wife. Phirojshah’s friendship is put to test, and he has to choose between his love and friend.
