  • Description
Aurangzeb Alamgir (r. 1658-1707), the sixth Mughal emperor, is widely reviled in India today. Hindu hater, murderer and religious zealot are just a handful of the modern caricatures of this maligned ruler. While many continue to accept the storyline peddled by colonial-era thinkers-that Aurangzeb, a Muslim, was a Hindu-loathing bigot-there is an untold side to him as a man who strove to be a just, worthy Indian king. In this bold and captivating biography, Audrey Truschke enters the public debate with a fresh look at the controversial Mughal emperor.

    Delightful

it's a very authentic book. An eye opener for all Aurangzeb haters. I recommend all history enthusiasts to read this book very well. Great work by Audrey. We rarely find books which describe Aurangzeb as a person and unbiasedly. This book is one of those rare literature pieces.

    Fabulous!

This book is must read for those who have been brainwashed by distorted facts and events of history by some biased historians as well as propagandist.
This book doesn't glorify Aurangzeb or try to paint his image as a great King but it just improve your misinformation and come forward with true facts.
I am sure after reading this book you will not see Aurangzeb as before you used to do.

    Must buy!

An illuminating work in depth and brief. You would be in a flow while reading this masterpiece.
The writer does justice to the most unjustified man of today's era Aurangzeb!
It is to be understood that the medival India was to be affected by proverbs like "ya takht ya tagoot" !
Aurangzeb was a ruler of his times and he ruled the way he could have. Not all of his choices were his own but the circumstances!
But he was a millitary and administrative genius.
Read the second chapter of this book !

    Awesome

Few historical personalities have been so relevant and influential to times centuries later after their death, as has been the mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Whether the controversies surrounding him were wilfully created to further some vested interests by weaving a verbose web of ill sustained arguments or whether the controversies were a spontaneous plain narrative of unbiased history based on verified sources is a hard fought debate that rages on.

The present book by an expert on the topic a...

Very well written and must read book !

This book is very honest about Aurangzeb, Author doesn't glorify him, she is putting things in perspective. I love her below statement
"Aurangzeb was made DEMON to get political millage" , If studies carefully you will find out that Aurangzeb never tried to demolish temples, even if he did few , it was out of situational not communal act.
unlike his predecessors, He cared for his subjects and made sure they were safe during his rein.

    Terrific

Courageous and applaudable work done by the author. Picking up Aurangzeb is like playing with hive of honey bee. Good book will suggest readers should buy and see the other narrative and discourse about Aurangzeb and this book challenge the existing narrative which was set by Historian like Jadunath Sarkar, who had written extensively on Aurangzeb.

    Good read
