The Way by Swann’s is the first volume in Marcel Proust’s book, In Search of Lost Time, considered by many to be one of the greatest classics of modern literature.

Summary of the Book

This book begins Proust’s classic, following the point of view of a narrator who reminisces about a childhood event when he was deprived of a goodnight’s kiss from his mother due to the visit of a Mr. Charles Swann. Years later, he once again meets Swann who has great aspirations for his beautiful daughter. Gilberte Swann is a gorgeous woman, grabbing the attention of any man who glances at her. However, her father is an unhappy man who quails from a marriage that was never meant to be long lasting. In this classic novel, Proust etches out the contrasting love lives and stories of a man whose way seemed to be paved with daggers.
