'Are we making a bomb?' 'This is a trust exercise, like in drama,' she says. 'Are we making a bomb as a trust exercise?' Fifteen-year-old Oliver Tate is terrified that his family is falling apart. He fears for his depressed father and is convinced that his mother is having an affair with her capoeira teacher. Deciding that it is down to him alone to save his parents' marriage, Oliver sets out on a campaign to rescue it while also embarking on an even more ambitious goal: to lose his virginity before he's sixteen to the seductive but slightly pyromaniacal Jordana . . . A surprising find.

I laughed my guts out at several points.Very unpretentious,self-effacing and informative.
It is almost painful to read about the histrionic of Oliver Tate,at some intervals.
But great book.....I wasn't too keen on buying this one but it is wonderful.
Beautiful imagery, amazing descriptions of a hormone ridden teenage mind.
It reads slowly and can be very rewarding if paid great attention to.Rich in content and high on laugh quotient.Characters are very fleshed-out.People are accused of being p...

Unexpected. Blame it on the movie.

I had watched the movie and really liked it. And as the trend generally goes, books are better than the movies. So, after watching the movie (more than once), i was very excited to be finally reading the book. However, somehow, i was disappointed. So, if you want to read the book...

A witty coming of age novel

A surprisingly poignant novel. I first heard of it when I was going thought the the tacks that it's composer had produced for the screen adaption. I soon had to get my hands on the book and received it in a matter of days via Flipkart.
Joe Dunthorne surprised me with his lack of pretentious prose.
Oliver Tate is an awkward high-school bully who is attracted by his pyromaniac girlfriend's emotional detachment.
It contains rudely hilarious one-liners and striking observations of what would app...
