The Prince is one of those books one HAS to read owing to its historical significance. We associate Machiavelli with shrewd and conniving virtues, and it is this book that gives an idea as to why we do so. This book was written as a gift to Lorenzo de Medici to aid him in ruling his province and in times of war. This book deals with idea of how a king or a prince should behave or do after getting his kingdom (state) by different means.
I will quote two chapters name which will give an idea about this book
1) concerning cruelty and clemency and weather it is better to be loved than feared.

Excellent book
This was one of the best books I read about power politics, apart from the Arthshastra by Chanakya. Anyone who reads this book will immediately realise that Machiavelli treats human beings very dispassionately. He is a very amoral writer and advocates that "The end justifies the means." In many ways, I found him to be similar to Kautilya, the author of the Arthshastra and the Neeti Shastra.

Book is about how to aquire power and remain powerful for a long time.
