  • Description

The Upside of Irrationality is a self-help book by Dan Ariely.

    Summary of the Book

In this book, Dan Ariely explains that being irrational isn’t always a bad thing. He looks at the positive effects of irrationality in our lives, and discusses how to channel irrational decisions to improve our lives and workplaces. He tries to help readers understand why and where we need irrationality and how to cheat in any kind of situation. He explains why humans choose to act only looking at the present and why this is an impediment to their own benefit. He also clubs humour with his anecdotes and explains how we really don’t know what will make us happy. This is a definite read for anyone who wants to understand how to make better decisions by leaving a little to chance with some irrationality from time to time.

    Author Info
    • Dan Ariely is the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Behavioral Economics at MIT. A tragic explosion many years ago which left him with extensive burns created a keen interest in the quality of the decisions that the nurses and physicians used to take care of him, leading him to research better approaches to treatment. This interest expanded to a larger range of irrationalities across many aspects of life -- and ultimately to the research described in Predictably Irrational.

Behavioral Economics at its best !

Dan Ariely is one of the best known Behavioral Economist in the world. An MIT professor and an awesome writer. I loved his Predictably Irrational book and thought of trying this book out.

Upside of Irrationality is even better ! I can just go on with what amazing experiments he has conducted and what surprising conclusions have been derived from it. I tell you just one thing, this book is gonna change the way you look at things and the way you do things.

As the title says, we defy logic at ...

    Utter Crap

You know those authors that just like to jibber jabber about a bunch of meaningless stuff? This is one of them. This book wastes a lot of time telling you meaningless stuff. I quit reading it way early in the book. Don't waste your money.

Personal discussion, without any logic, no data what so ever, so called experiments.

If anyone want to buy, let me know I'm selling it!

Good read; but not as good as Predictably Irrational

It is a good read and should be on the shelves of anyone interested in judgement and decision making. But there are some overlap with the first book of the series, Predictably Irrational. Also, since it lacks the surprise oomph that the first book came with, it doesn't pack the punch that Predictably Irrational did. However, it is a good read, and I suggest you do what I did: grab both the books, and read them in quick succession.

Flipkart delivery was great, as usual, as was the packaging ...

    Dan Ariely again!

    Five stars for Flipkart service!

My brother gave me the first sequel of this book, Predictably Irrational. I was stunned as Dan sought to unravel my very life in philosophical terms. This one is nothing less. If you've read and enjoyed the first book, you'll sure as hell enjoy this as well.
